The June 1952 theft of jewels from a Brooklyn church display enraged crime boss Joseph Profaci. Discovering that the gems were taken by someone linked with his organization, Profaci ordered them immediately returned. And, then, Profaci ordered the murder of the thief.
Ralph "Bucky" Emmino was found shot to death in the early morning hours of June 4, 1952. Emmino's friends in the Gallo brothers' faction never forgave Profaci's act of personal vengeance. When the Gallos broke from Profaci in the early 1960s, they cited the murder of Emmino as one of their reasons.
