Many know of the November 14, 1957, Apalachin NY Mafia convention that was crashed by law enforcement. (See: "Apalachin party-crashers exposed Mafia network" on Writers of Wrongs - https://www.writersofwrongs.com/2017/11 ... mafia.html ) But there were actually several underworld meetings in the Apalachin area in 1956 and 1957.

1956 fall - A meeting of the Mafia Commission was held at the estate of Joseph Barbara at Apalachin (the same site as the Mafia convention a year later). This meeting was described in two autobiographies of Bonanno leaders: A Man of Honor by Joseph Bonanno with Sergio Lalli (https://amzn.to/2OGtmAP) and The Last Testament of Bill Bonanno by Bill Bonanno with Gary B. Abromovitz (https://amzn.to/2FvslMu).

1957 summer - Arthur V. Hart's investigation of the November 1957 Apalachin convention suggested that another meeting of Mafiosi may have occurred in the Apalachin-Endicott-Binghamton area in the summer of 1957.

1957 fall - Apparently in preparation for the November convention, Joseph Barbara met in Endicott with Russell Bufalino and James Osticco (members of the northeast Pennsylvania Mafia organization) on October 29, 1957 (reported by FBI). The evening before the scheduled convention, leaders of the Bonanno and Magaddino Crime Families met for discussions at a private home in Endicott. (See: "Bosses meet on eve of Apalachin convention" on Writers of Wrongs - https://www.writersofwrongs.com/2018/11 ... achin.html ).
